What a real watch render includes

This page is a simple 2D preview to help you choose colors. A real project is a full 3D model in 3ds Max: the case, lugs, bracelet or strap, dial, hands and clasp, with materials that react to light like real metal, leather and glass. That is what makes close-up product shots look believable.

Watch modeling is one of the areas I enjoy most. Exploded views like the one above are useful in product launches, because they show how the parts fit together and make the build quality easy to see.

Tips for choosing watch colors

  • Start with the dial. It is the part people look at first.
  • Match metals. A gold case often looks best with a warm dial or a brown leather strap.
  • Use contrast for sporty designs, like a black dial with a steel case and a rubber strap.
  • Try the exploded view to check that every part works together, not just the front.
