How to use these V-Ray settings

These are starting numbers, not magic numbers. Every scene is different. Use them to get a clean first render, then adjust light and exposure by eye.

Start with the Preview setting while you place the camera and lights. It renders fast and shows you if the light is right. When the composition is locked, switch to Final.

Why the camera settings matter

Most dark or burnt renders come from the camera, not the render settings. A real interior in daylight needs a slower shutter or higher ISO than an exterior in full sun. If your image is too dark, lower the shutter number (1/60 instead of 1/125) before you push light power up.

Noise threshold in simple words

Noise threshold tells V-Ray when to stop cleaning the image. Lower means cleaner but slower. 0.01 is a good final value for most client work. If you still see grain in dark corners, add more light to the room instead of dropping the value further.

Questions people ask

What are good V-Ray settings for interior renders?

Brute force for primary GI, Light cache for secondary, noise threshold 0.01 for final, and a physical camera around f/8, 1/125, ISO 400 for daylight. Add the denoiser at the end.

Should I use CPU or GPU in V-Ray?

GPU is faster for most scenes if you have a good RTX card. CPU is safer for very heavy scenes and some older materials. The settings above work as a start for both.

Why is my V-Ray render too dark?

Usually the camera exposure. Slow the shutter or raise ISO first. Also check that color mapping is not set too low and that windows are not blocked.
