For learning only. This is not financial advice. Check your broker’s contract size, as some use different values.
Gold moves fast. A good entry with the wrong lot size can still wipe out an account. Fixing your risk per trade, usually 1% or 2%, keeps one bad trade from hurting too much.
On most brokers one standard lot of XAUUSD is 100 ounces. So a $1 move in the gold price equals $100 per lot. The tool takes the money you are willing to lose, divides it by your stop loss in dollars, and divides again by the contract size.
Example: $1,000 balance, 1% risk is $10. Stop loss of $5 in price. 10 / (5 x 100) = 0.02 lots.
Brokers do not all agree on what a pip is for gold. This tool uses 1 pip = $0.10 price move, which is the most common. If your broker uses something else, enter the stop in dollars instead.
On most brokers, 1 standard lot of XAUUSD is 100 ounces. A $1 price move is $100 profit or loss per lot.
With 1% risk and a $5 stop, it works out to 0.002 lots, which is below the 0.01 minimum. Use a tighter stop or accept that small accounts carry more risk on gold.
No. It is a calculator for learning. Trading gold carries high risk.
